The Barça faces the bottom before the PSG

The Barça does not trust the Norwegian Elverum

It will be difficult to see so many ‘stars’ of world handball together in a duel between clubs and, for this reason, the meeting will be, as always between them, exceptional.

Cédric Sorhaindo turned 36 last Sunday and two days before he reached an agreement with FC Barcelona to extend his contract for one more season until June 2021, although the signing will not take place until the circumstances caused by COVID-19 allow it .

In this way, the French pivot will complete his eleventh consecutive season as a Barça player, surpassing the Danish Jesper Noddesbo and placing himself as the second foreigner who has dressed the most courses as a Blaugrana only behind the 12 of Laszlo Nagy.

Called to be one of the great leaders of the dressing room before the announced goodbye of Víctor Tomàs, the extrovert ‘Tchouff’ has had a telephone conversation with SPORT.

How are you living the current situation?

As everyone. I miss handball, but the seriousness of the problem we are experiencing is far beyond that. Seeing people’s suffering impacts a lot. This has helped us to see that we can be more supportive, share everything and be a team. When we leave this pandemic behind, we must remember that we can do great things if we are in solidarity. In that sense, I think it will make us grow.

Congratulations on the renewal. How does it feel

Very happy. First of all, thank the club for their trust and also thank Pasqui and my teammates. I have renovated many times, but this has been the most special. It is an honor and a pride. Here I have lived the best years of my life and I am going to continue another year at Barça … I did not cry, but I was very moved.

What does Barça mean in your career?

Barça was not the beginning, but it was the first march. I left France, I did not speak Spanish … I have played with a lot of players and I want to thank everyone, from the oldest to the youngest at the base, because together they have made me grow and be more mature.

And Xavi Pascual?

Oh, very easy! He is a father on and off the track. He drives me a lot like a good father, but in hard times he has always been there and has supported me to the full. Mine died six years ago and my relationship with Pasqui is of that type. Later, his human spirit, how he sees things, his way of thinking … I identify with him in everything.

When you look back and see that child who was not doing well and that operation in which they broke his shins to ‘open’ his legs … Are you proud?

People tell me it is a miracle, but I see life tests passed. Faced with problems, you have to look for solutions, overcome yourself. As a child, I had to face that harsh reality, but I got over it. We have to overcome our fears. I’m not afraid of failing, but I can’t bear not trying.

You are the demonstration of that saying, ‘wanting is power’ …

You can always, but it is key to find the people who make you grow. Maybe I have had the right people, people who have transmitted love and passion to me, people who support you, who guide you … In the end it is a mixture of mentality, support. You know? I thought I would never play abroad. When I was on my way to Barcelona, near the border, I started to cry, but right away I thought … it’s your decision and you have to go! I thank the people who have supported me and those who have criticized me, because they have helped me to have more spirit, more determination and more will.

How do you live the issue of racism

It is a mixture of many things. You know? We have to be realistic. It is an issue that is there and this had to happen. A lot of things happen that many times people do not see or do not want to see, but the time has come to say ‘stop’. The truth is that those images impact me. And to all.

There are many things to change …

You have to be positive. I am who I am, I assume it and I am very proud. It is a matter of loving yourself. Changing the world is everyone’s business, but for that each person has to realize that they must change and that is easy to say. The difficult thing is to change mentalities. You get angry, but it is better to go with your head high, go according to what things and, I repeat, be positive.

Still looking forward to winning?

Titles are left behind. I want to continue living stories. When we win, I always value all the work behind it. Also, the stories in the titles are never alike. And what I want is to live my last adventure here and say in 10 years that we won again.

Will he retire at the end of next season for sure?

No … We’ll see, we’ll see.

How are you doing with Víctor Tomàs?

I faced him when I was 17 and we joked so much that sometimes we couldn’t laugh anymore. Victor has been fully involved and has given everything for the club and his teammates. He said about me that I am a 10 person and I give it back to him. He is a ten in everything, with imperfections like every human being. Víctor is that, it is commitment … he is the boy of Barça.

Do you see yourself as the leader of the dressing room?

I don’t want to act like I’m not. In this dressing room there is a lot of complicity and there Victor has been key, but he cannot continue. It is something that has to come out of you. If I have to say something I will say it, because I think it will be good for the growth of the team.

Can this Barça improve?

Barça renew Sorhaindo until 2021

Cedric Sorhaindo: "I would like to continue one more year at Barça"

Our style has changed and that determines everything. Pasqui likes to add nuances and there we can continue to improve. We have to perfect it. The coach knows how to transmit what he wants and we all believe in him. In the end the players are the ones who end up setting the style and there we are also ahead.

FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with the Barça Lassa handball player Raúl Entrerríos to extend the existing contractual relationship until the end of the 2019/20 season as a first team player, and until the end of the 2023/24 academic year as a member of the Club’s technical staff.

This announcement comes on the eve of the match of the 28th round of the Asobal League that will face Barça Lassa and Quabit Guadalajara this Saturday at 5:00 pm at the Palau.

The team led by David Pisonero managed to draw on their court in the first round against the Catalans (26-26), thus breaking FC Barcelona Lassa’s streak of 133 consecutive wins in the Asobal League.

Xavi Pascual’s men returned to the League with good feelings last weekend at the MMT Seguros Zamora court (23-36) on the day of the long-awaited return of the Danish Lasse Andersson after 13 months KO.

until 2020 on the track and afterwards, to the staff

The Asturian center-back has signed the contract extension at the Club’s offices, accompanied by the section manager, Joan Bladé, and the sports manager, David Barrufet. SPORT already announced that it would continue at Barça at the end of last year.

In this way, the second captain of the Barça team will remain active on the slopes for two more seasons, until he is 39 years old, and then he will become part of the technical structure of the section.

Raúl Entrerríos arrived at Palau Blaugrana in the summer of 2010 from BM Valladolid, he has won all possible titles as a Barça player and had a contract until the end of the current campaign.

He leads the team with sobriety, fantasy and determination, assuming responsibilities at key moments of the matches and leading from discretion. The Asturian is the second captain of the team since last season, which shows the weight he has in a champion’s dressing room.

As a Barça player, Palau’s ‘9’ has won two Champions Leagues (2011 and 2015), three Super Globes (2014, 2015 and 2018), eight Asobal Leagues, four King’s Cups, seven Asobal Cups, six Spanish Super Cups and six Catalan Super Cups.

A total of 36 titles for the youngest of the Entrerríos, since his older brother, Alberto, also dressed as a Barça player in the 2001/02 season. In a few days he will look for another title in Madrid, the Copa del Rey that will be played on May 4, 5 and 6.

RAÚL ENTRERRÍOS:

"I am very happy to continue here. I have been at the Club for several years now and I continue with the same enthusiasm as the first day. It is a very beautiful stage of my life; I have come to a place where I can do what I like at the highest level and in a great club that shines in many sports".

"You have to assess the difficulty of the competitions. Now is the time to assess everything we have achieved in recent years".

DAVID BARRUFET, SPORTS MANAGER OF THE SECTION:

"Raúl’s renewal was very important to us, because he is one of the best center-backs in the world. He has been at the Club for many years and gives us many things".

"He will continue as a player and later as a coach, because we believe that he can help us a lot both at the base and in the first team with his experience".

The stoppage due to the coronavirus affects sport in many ways, and especially the athletes who had planned their goodbye in this campaign. Thus, Catalunya Ràdio unveiled Barça’s handball plans today with Raúl Entrerríos, who was going to retire after the Tokyo Olympics.

Apr 24, 2020 at 9:02 pm CEST

The solution is simple. When the Japanese event is postponed and both ASOBAL and Euroleague are paralyzed, the Blaugrana team will offer Raúl Entrerríos one more year of contract, so that he can achieve his dream of saying goodbye to the active practice of handball in new Games. Raúl has just turned 39 years old.
